THE L0WDOWN ON SUGAR...which sweetners are healthiest

Wouldn't it be great if you could have your cake and eat it too... that you could eat sugar without worrying about any health repercussions.…if you choose your sweetener wisely and have it in moderation, it can actually can have some holistic health benefits, like supporting immunity and lowering inflammation, by providing much-needed minerals and nutrients... sweet!!

The scoop is processed sugars are toxic. They provide nothing, just empty calories. Aside from having empty calories, sugar is highly addictive, causes blood sugar issues, and interferes with nutrient absorption, and even has been linked to contributing to heart disease, weight gain, and other degenerative diseases. But you say we all need a little sweetness in our life, right?

Exchanging white sugar for a less processed, more natural sugar, is better for your health. There are alternatives that at least can offer some benefits.

Do you know what makes a sugar good or bad? It's important to understand the differences between fructose, glucose, and sucrose. Sugars to look for score low in the glycemic index and have lower amounts of fructose. Sucrose, which is sugar and glucose are what cause insulin levels to spike where fructose does not.

Fructose is the sugar in fruit, however, too much fructose can be hard for the liver to metabolize. The recommended daily grams of fructose should not exceed 50gms per day. More than this causes the metabolism to produce free radicals, which is why high fructose corn syrup is so bad.

So for optimum Heather benefits, look for a sweetener with lower glycemic index than table sugar, so it doesn't cause insulin levels to spike, as well as one that has nutrients beneficial to the body, because sugar has no benefit whatsoever 👎

Better Sugar Alternatives 😁

Date Syrup

Date syrup isn't just sugar, it has nutritional benefits because it's a food made from fruit. It has a low glycemic index, and is lower in fructose than most sweeteners. It also has nutrients such as magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc. It has the same antioxidant level as Maca, and raspberries, making it more nutritionally dense than other sweeteners. The potassium levels actually help your body metabolize the sugar better in your bloodstream... yayyy 👍

Raw Honey

Raw honey and in particular local honey is a food so it's more like dates. It's referred to as the nectar of the gods, containing amino acids, electrolytes and a lot of antioxidants. It's been known for its natural antiseptic properties, and the ability to alleviate some allergy symptoms. As far as fructose levels, honey does offer similar benefits as date syrup does, as it does not contain higher levels of fructose. And as a pot t of interest it might be able to lower blood sugar levels and aid in regulating the metabolism...not bad huh? And when used in baking, makes for warm, moist baked goods and chewier cookies!

Maple Syrup

Pure, maple syrup, has a low glycemic index, and scires low in fructose levels...pretty cool. Pure maple syrup extracted from trees is minimally processed and loaded with minerals and antioxidants even more than honey. The only thing is you have to be careful to make sure you get 100% maple syrup today. Otherwise you're having a conglomeration of maple syrup and corn syrup, or corn syrup with maple flavoring...like omg, what's that?

Black Strap Molasses

Blackstrap molasses is rich in iron, potassium, and calcium and is nutritionally superior to many other sweeteners. Just 1 tablespoon. Contains more iron than a single serving of steak. Over 10% of the daily recommended requirement. Today it's a side, product of refined white sugar and processed three times to remove as much sucrose as possible which great. However, it's taste doesn't apply to all recipes, but generally can be interchanged with brown sugar. In baking, it helps give moistness like we find with honey...like chewier cookies...yum 😋

Choosing a sweetener offering benefits for the body and less damaging than others

aids overall health and well-being

Avoiding artificial sweeteners, such asparatamine, sucralose and saccharine is wise, as they offer no benefit, and are detrimental to the liver. They are attractive to some because they can aide in weight control since they virtually contain no calories. Instead of offering beneficial nutirents they are a detriment to the body. Its best to focus on sweeteners that have a more overall holistic benefit.

Avoid high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup is highly processed and is the worst with insulin spikes, as it's not digested by the body. It's goes right into the bloodstream and creates havoc.

Sweeteners such as agave and sugar alcohols are not a very healthy alternative either, and should be avoided for the most part. And really any sweetener should be used minimally. Treating sweets as a condiment or treat helps utilize them on a more minimal level so they're not the main focus, so you could have your cake and eat it too… And yeah sometimes you can have your cake anyway you like it...guilt free 😋
