Thyroid health: The key is balance

The thyroid gland is part of the endocrine system, which is made up of glands that produce, store and release hormones.

The delicate balance of hormones is the cornerstone of good health. When hormones are not in balance, the body begins to breakdown and go defunct. How do we support such an important gland in our bodies? Whole foods... specifically healthy fats and produce especially greens are key. Greens play a very important role because they help balance the fats we have in our body as well as supporting our natural detoxification process.

The thyroid is very sensitive to toxins, and protecting it from chemical additives in our foods, products we use as well as the air we breath is essential. And its not just foods and and chemicals that effect this important gland, but also our overall lifestyle has an effect. In other words a holistic approach is best in order to rebalance the body. Stress has a huge impact on the body's overall health and exerciseing regularly can not only help eleviate stress but also assist the body in the delicate balance of hormone production.

Approximately 1 in 8 women will be affected by a thyroid condition at some point in their lives. The risk for women is about 10 times higher than for men. It's not sure yet why this is, but what is known, is what causes these responses going dyfuct, is a trigger in the bodies auto immune system whereas the body's immune system begins to attack itself.… And it is known that women are more prone to auto immune diseases than men.

One of the reasons of prevalence of thyroid disorders in women is the interplay between thyroid hormones and the hormones that fluctuate during the menstrual cycle. Thyroid problems can happen at any time but they are especially common in women during and after the menopause due tochanging hormone levels. Some women may confuse the symptoms of thyroid disorders with the effects of the menopause, which can prevent them from seeking treatment.
